NIGERIAN BANKS: LIST OF MAJOR DEBTORS
With the directive of the Central Bank of Nigeria on the recovery of delinquent credit facilities, a lot of banks have started publishing the names of debtors, their directors, date granted, expiry date and outstanding balance.
This will/should serve as a means to alert the public on the defaulters and facilitate payment. Merely looking at the list of debtors, the directors and the amount owed leaves me in awe at the amount of money out as debts. Several small companies, local governments, associations, staff cooperative societies, staff union, private owned enterprises are not left out on the list.
Imagine a company wherein the directors are all from the same family and amount outstanding goes deep to a 100 billion Naira or a Sole-proprietor business owing millions of Nigerian currency.
